Gasper is a paternal orphan who stays with his mother, four sisters and two brothers. His father died in a motor accident and left his family in a very small, temporary shelter which is very risky for them. They have a very small piece of land on which they grow very little food. His mother has no steady income-generating work, yet she gets a little money from doing casual labour on people’s gardens during raining season. The money she makes is not enough compared to the workload she does. Gasper wants to become an engineer but this will only be achieved with someone’s help.
