Helping Kids in Uganda ‘Get Schooled’
Get Schooled started as a project to celebrate my 50th birthday in 2019 and turned into the trip of a lifetime, a (hopefully) sustainable school and many changed lives, including mine.
It took almost two years of planning and after raising over $40,000, we were able to send fifty-four students to school for 2019. We were also grateful to have a completely safe and life-changing bike ride around the country of Uganda in June and July 2019, cycling just over 2200 diverse kilometres over the span of fifty beautiful days (thirty days in the saddle). We met countless Ugandans who embraced us, supported us, fed us, encouraged us and waved at us, sometimes from great distances. We couldn’t have made it without them!
A lot has happened since then. We continue to support some of the original fifty students and have seen five of them graduate and go on to successful vocations. You can read about their lives on our Success Stories page (LINK). And, in hopes to do something more sustainable and long-lasting, and with the help of some generous donors, we jumped at the opportunity to purchase land to build a school right in the district where Kassanda Children’s Aid works. We gave it all to Kassanda Children’s Aid to manage and use to reach the most vulnerable of children. Please hop over to the Kassanda Seed School (LINK) to read more about what is happening there!
Our focus has now shifted to getting sponsorships for the students and teachers of this little vulnerable village school and continue building some projects that will help the school become self sustainable. You can read the profiles of the most vulnerable students on our Meet the Children page (LINK) and if you are interested in sponsoring a student and having interactions with him or her, please reach out to us. We would be more than happy to help get that set up!
