Joan is a paternal orphan whose father died of HIV/AIDS. She stays with her mother, two other sisters and one brother at her grandfather’s home because her father did not leave them with a house and she failed to pay rent. Joan irregularly attends school because of lack of school fees and scholastic materials. Her mother tries to educate her children, but she fails because she has too big a burden to carry.
